Who We Are
Even during the warmest months of the year in Seattle, people can be ‘chilly’ or hard to connect with. Despite the world class vistas, Seattle is one of the most lonely and depressed places in the United States. Elihu exists to create community relationships and belonging for people in Seattle. We believe that people are not meant to be lonely but in community together. Our sense of values is rooted in the idea of a triune-Christian God who is fundamentally relational. We always attempt to offer actionable Grace and Hospitality to all.
Our community pizza dinners are curated for people of all kinds to cook together, share food together, and share life together. We cherish all the different cultures, identities, lifestyles, and economic backgrounds of the people we meet.
Diversity & Inclusion
The exciting thing about having events on lake union and in Seattle is the massively diverse intersection of people we interact with. We believe that all people are valuable to our community and to the divine. We wish to humanize all we encounter regardless of class, race, ethnicity or housing status. We are open and affirming of LGBTQIA+ people. We recognize that diversity & inclusion is a difficult work, which requires ongoing investment and continual compassion.
Elihu means….?
The name Elihu comes from the book of Job in the Bible. The name is related to Elijah and means ‘God is my God.’ Elihu argues against Job’s lawsuit against God and says even in the midst of desolation and hurt in our lives, that there is still grace and blessing. Like Job, you may have a legitimate lawsuit against God, religion or life in general. We welcome you and hope you can experience blessing and grace in the midst of any lawsuit you have. Elihu ultimately means to trust in God in the face of doubt and adversity.
